Hi guys,

I just learned (by a stroke of luck) that the smaller/shorter part of the two-piece cylinder that contains the cleaning kit (inside the buttstock) is a muzzle-protector ... to keep the cleaning rod from contacting the muzzle during the cleaning process.

Just in case you didn't know ...

Ingenuity ... love it!

Hey Supernova,

I just love simple low-tech stuff that works really well.

I've never found a "manual" can-opener that works as well as the simple little P38 (I think that's what it's called) that fits into a small spot in my hand. About the weight and size of a loonie ...

U.S. Army design, I think?

Yup ...

Hey Mr. Moderator,

Yes, I knew about the "handle feature" pretty soon ... but I cannot remember if I read about it, or if it was an intuitive situation.

My Internet service is dial-up, and a lot of stuff is just a no-go.

I "started" this thread (at the risk of sounding dumb) for the benefit of folks like myself ... with nobody around who has any knowledge of the SKS.

I googled "P38 can opener" and I gotta say its a neat little piece. I love little things like that too. I think thats what draws me to older military weapons and equipment so much.
