quick PAL

Haha glad to hear it. I'm still waiting on my RPAL upgrade... it's been too long :p

Have you been phoning them at all?

I'm just finishing up my RPAL application and here's what I did to speed up the process....

First, I watched the website. As soon as I saw they were 'processing my application' I called them. That was about 2 weeks after sending it in.

When I called, they pulled up my application and reasked me those stupid questions (standard procedure I was told) and then called my references the same day.

I patiently waited about 10 days and called again and was told the CFO for my province now had the app so I had them put me through to the Alberta CFO. He pulled my application up while I was on the phone with him and said (and I quote) "It's not approved yet.....but hang on one minute I just want to look it over" and put me on hold. In less than 2 minutes he came back on the phone and said I was approved and I should have the card in 3 weeks or less in the mail as he had to send the app back to NB where they make the cards.

My original application was received by the CFC people on May 12/08 (according the website) and I was approved by the CFO last week, on or about June 17th.

It's probably worth noting that at all times I remained pleasant and polite with the people I spoke with on the phone.

Received the card in the mail later the day I wrote this. Total turnaround time from sending the app in to receiving card - about 6 weeks. :)

I'm up to 70 days now for my initial application, a guy who applied at the same time as me (took the test at the same time and we sent off our apps at the same time) got his several weeks ago.

I suspect it's because I have an arab last name and am requesting restricted. According to them it was sent out but Canada Post if they sent it out when they said they did I'd already have gotten it, quite a while ago.

Just like the application sat around long after they got it and then took forever to actually get processed I'm sure it sat around in shipping for a while too.

Way to make us all safer!

I think my renewal took 22 days from the day I mailed it. I watched the website to see where it was. I could see they received it, saw that it was in process so I called them. I told them I was a little concerned because I have 12(5) status and didn't want to be caught short without a PAL. A few days later it came in the mail.
The only better gun related service I have had was with the US ATF. I faxed in my Form 6 less that a month before I wanted to use it. After 3 weeks I called them on a Friday and a nice lady on the phone gave me her direct # and told me to call her the following Wednesday, she would make sure I got it in time. She called me first thing Monday morning and asked for my fax #, I had my Form 6, two minutes later.
