Hi Everyone,

My Fiancé started on me that she wants a dog, I have always said no do to the fact that she wants a tea cup yorkie (sorry I don't see this as a dog but more as a toy) I want a hunting dog. so to make a long story short, last night at a xmas party I met a gentleman that has and hunts a cockapoo.
He had pics and videos of his dog hunting grouse and rabbits.
Any one else ever see hear or use a cockapoo for hunting?

She likes this dog and if it hunts I LOVE this dog lol, help I need your input.
Thanks

Poodle cross with a cocker spanial is my guess. Both breeds have a hunting background so good chance you will have a good little dog there. My FIL used to take their toy poodle out for birds.

OK, I’ll bite.
WTF is a cockapoo?? Lol

A mongrel; It results from a Cocker Spaniel bred to a Poodle.

Field bred Cockers and Field bred Poodles are both very capable hunting dogs. "Pet" versions usually less so but most retain some hunting instinct. A cross may produce a capable hunting dog but expectations should be kept low.

I was going to recommend a Labradoodle which could satisfy both your needs. You would have to meet one to understand how cool and smart they are. Anyway, good luck with your choice! Oh, and for the record, I don't own a Labradoodle, I have two Morkies.

a cockapoo is a fake dog. He can imitate the real ones but they aren't actually real dogs. Their diet consists of insects, fish flakes and occasionally water.
Rumor is they are going to be available at Dollar stores across Canada starting this month.

Why do people pay ridiculous purebred-type prices for mutts? Crossing a purebred Cocker Spaniel with a purebred Poodle results in a mixed-breed dog, nothing wrong with that and they are probably great pets...but they are not a breed by any stretch of the imagination. Yet some marketing a-hole came up with names for such critters and now everyone thinks they are worth big money. It's insane.

I like mutts and mongrels and mixed-breeds...almost all the dogs I have owned have been such and I've loved them all. They cost whatever the adoption/veterinary costs were; nobody tried calling them something they weren't.

Well I'll probably get flamed for this but ....

I'm in the same boat sort of soooo......I've got a pudlepointer pup coming in the spring.
It's from a good breeder who runs a game preserve also. So I can say that they do hunt.

Good luck.

I’ve got a labradoodle and a golden doodle, neither have any game drive. But they’re both very smart, great pets and don’t shed.

My pal had a Golden doodle and it was a pretty good hunting dog, it had a good nose on it and would always flush up rabbits and birds.

I could see you and Dominic on an episode of Mountain men.

Both of you and your hunting dogs come strolling out of bush, and Tom and Marty are standing there, with a WTF look on their faces..
Ha ha JK guys

Pudelpointers are apparently a solid hunting breed.

When you get yours, make sure you cross it with a poodle...you'll get a pudeloodle...

Dunnoh..........our X was a Border Collie Lab.

One of my buddies has a labradoodle that hunts pretty well also. Good nose for birds and retrieves, but unfortunately neither of mine seem to care. Good pets all the same. I got them to be pets that don’t shed, prey drive would have been a bonus though

Smooth haired Fox Terrier - full of spunk, small, but not too small and pretty darned good looking too!

Get a hound dog. Smallest is a Dachshund......and those little buggers were bred to hunt badgers! good noses, game driven. Gotta be a size comprimise between you and the gf that works!
