Quick question, how many pistols in canada?

Hey guys, trying to write a report for college defending gun ownership... does anyone have the current, or at least close estimate of registered handguns in Canada?

I heard 600,000 on this forum but that could be wrong. 18-21 million total guns, so I'd guess over a mill for sure.

Lots of luck getting any numbers which make sense and fit with past numbers.
For example, in '95, Allan Rock told a committee 1.1million handguns. Martin during the election said 500,000. So we lost 600,000 handguns in the past 11 years? That's over a thousands pistols removed from the system each week, every week, from 1995 to 2006?? I don't find that credible...

If you are talking about registered handguns, it's probably well over a million (with 600,000 being 12.6 prohibs alone). If you are talking about the aggregate of legal and illegal guns, who knows. My personal suspicion is that the number of unregistered handguns in Canada is at least as large as the number of legally owned ones.
