I have my restricted, and I'd like to start buying restricted. Obviously, I need to get a membership somewhere. I'm looking for recommendations on the cheapest and quickest way to do this. I live in the west end of Ottawa. Suggestions?

If you're in the west end your best bet is the Stittsville range, (613)836-3871. I'm not a member though so I can't say how cheap and quick it'll be for ya.

In Ontario, I think you'll find patience is a virtue during that harrowing time between the moment you get your license and the moment you get to actually shoot your guns at the range.

My recollection is that Stittsville has some specific membership rules and fees. If you are in the West End, Smiths Falls Fish and Game is a good alternative. Dinsdale on this board is on the executive there. There is no easy way to get onto Connaught for casual shooting. If driving is no hassle, the club in Grenville (ie. Brockville) has a tremendous clubhouse and several pistol bays.

The cheapest range in Ottawa, at least for your 1st year is the NCRRA (at CFB Connaught).

PM me if you want more info.

SFFGC is about 45 minutes from Bayshore.

Cost is $125 / single or $145 / family.

I can show you around on a Saturday if you are interested.
Bring my .22lr revolver, CZ75b 9mm and Model 15 .38 Special for you to try as well.

Cheers!

If you don't mind driving, I really recomend Grenville Fish and Game in Prescott, The RA centre is really restricted in time and use, I quit and joined Grenville.

hi, hope you don't mind me piggy-backing a question since it's sort of related.

the RA is closest to me, but can i get membership in any club and have it "transferable" / accepted at all other local clubs? or is each club totally separate? are some overlapping? for example, can one membership get me into two different ranges, so that i can go to either one depending on the day / time?

All range memberships are separate.

You're ATT will be good for the range you joined, as well as all other ranges in Ontario. You can go to the other ones and pay the daily rate.
