Im looking for a savage target action(3 screw) with a right bolt left port for a project, and after some looking around, I've only been able to find a dual port at Ellwood Epps.
Is there any other places that usually carry these actions? Or is there any place that would be able to order one in without a whole lot of hassle?

I'm appreciate any help anyone could throw my way, looking to build something fun this winter and I would like to use one of these actions.

Thanks!

email Kevan at ellwood and see if they have one in stock or if they have ordered one in the past.
I can't help but laugh at you as I type this and stair at the same action your after sitting on my desk....................

the "theory" is the having a right blot left port, the action has a bit of matrial remeover on both sides rather then all on one, this makes the action stiffer then the duel port or standard right/right configurations.. does it really work? coulnt tell ya, i have a rifle built off a left/right savage and a standard right/right remmington. they are both tack drivers how ever i find the left port savage more of a hasnt to load shooting prone as i have to take my left hand off the rear bag

OP - get ahold of wolverine, they have ALWAYS been able to get me what im after, and they are probably the easiet group of people iv ever had the pleasure of dealing with

Yodave, that was cold... But I laughed pretty hard too lol.
Thanks for all the quick help guys, I'll definitely fire off some emails to Epps, Wolverine, and Northshore and see what I can find out.
I wanted the left port, right bolt because I have right port right bolt F/TR and I find reaching around to load to be a PITA so I thought I would give the left port a try.
I plan on building a single shot 338 Edge off of this action, just looking for all the parts!

Actually Yodave, if you have one sitting on your desk maybe you could do me a favor. If you don't mind, could you measure the length of the left port for me? Like I said, I have a right port action and am curious if they are the exact same or if the RBLP port is smaller. I would think they should be the same, but stranger things have happened.

I will order Savage 12 Bench Rest rifle soon. It has a target action with Left port/Right bolt. I wonder if I can insert the bullet on either side?

If it's a dual port(which I think the benchrest is) you could technically load from the right, but it kind of defeats the purpose of the dual port. I'll bet once you try load from the left and ejecting to the right, you'll be happy with how it feels.

mine are all right bolt-right port, I like it better that way, right bolt left port with left eject could raise my eyebrow though........

The left port is the same length as the right port on the target actions, my concern would be more as to if the port height is enough to get your choosen case in and out of, not sure of it is or was ever offered with a magnum bolt face, I'll google it later just out of my own curiousity, I have a magnum bolt face here collecting dust............

Just a update, actions come with a standard or 223 bolt face, that means .473 or .378 (308 or 223 families) but a belted magnum case will fit through the loading port. Due to the larger threads of the target action however I am not certain as to what the safe operating pressures of the action would be, the outside of the action is the same diameter as a standard action, but for comparison savage uses a large shank action for there WSM offerings.....food for thought for those of you building outside of the box.
