I'm planning on buying a 308 length Sako 85 with iron sights. I'm liking the idea of quick release mounts if ever I find myself preferring to use the iron sights.

The quick release Sako brand optilock bases seem hard to comeby, at least in canada !? Does anyone carry them?

I've found that leupold also seems to makes a Sako 85 quick release mount, however in their case, only the rings remove and not the complete mounts. Would this obstruct my vision through the iron sights? I imagine it would, which defeats the purpose for me...!?

Any other options out there?

This would be my fist choice, without any doubt: h ttp://www.masina-tuote.com/en/varusteet.html
Scroll down to SAKO mount; the mount uses SAKO's own dovetails. It's no "web shop," but they ship...

FWIW, I have no personal experience with this model for SAKO, but I have their QD mounts for Tikka M55 and M07 - both are superb products, no issues with POI between removals and re-installs.

Thanks, I just sent them an e-mail. I would of never known about that company. How much do the mounts-rings costs approx? Any other insightful suggestions out there?

For what its worth, the main reason I dumped my Optilocks in favor of MaSi mount was the instant ability to access the irons, without loss of POI upon remount However, as it turns out these are - IMHO - better engineered mounts, and the components are better quality than most others that I've used. As one example, take a look at the ring screws:

Anyone who have struggled with stripped Optilock screws know what I mean. Also, these mounts have other features that make them great for bolt-action rifles, and the design eliminates the need to "lap" your rings.

Let us know if you hear back from the company about the SAKO mount - The mounting system design looks interesting, and the feedback from "the old country" is all positive. Maybe somebody should start importing them on this side of Atlantic...?

I'm starting to second guess my assumption that the Leupold QR bases don't allow for the use of Sako's iron sights... Does anyone have experience with this ? They may not be as tall as in the first picture I posted after all ...!?

I have my hand up!! WTH is it with Optilock crap hardware ... not like they are giving these rings away!! Reminds me of the old days of Jap junk. A good reminder that even the better companies aren't above gouging their customers.

In all fairness to Optilocks, the soft metal screws may be a built-in "safety valve" to prevent scope damage caused by ham-fisted installers, be they at home or in "professional" shops. But in that case, they should be specified for "single use only," and replacements should be readily available and reasonably priced. Also, the heads should remain intact even if the threads strip, so the damaged screw could be removed without drilling.

Regardless, I found something better, so I'm moving on... I'll post some photos of my QD Tikka mounts shortly.

Cheers!

What about Burris Xtreme basis? I picked mine up from Jerry @ Mystic and am using Leupold QRW rings on my Tikka. They look like they would be lower than the Leupold bases.
