Hey guys quick question. It seems that tactical red dot scopes and such come with the hardware to mount directly to picatinny (sp) rails on an ar15. If I buy more of a variable hunting scope, will it come with everything to mount to an ar15 or do I need to
buy more mounting hardware?

So the scope would come with everyhing but rings? And then I buy rings to match the gun or the particular scope I have?

Does your AR have a picatinny rail? If so you would need to buy a scope and buy a pair of rings that correspond with the diameter of the tube on the scope (most likely 1"). The rings would also have be mountable to weaver or picatinny rails. Basically don’t buy dove tail rings...they wont work on your rail. ;)

Thanks for the response, starting to make a little more sense, I hate being a newbie. I haven't got the AR yet as I'm waiting on my Rpal. I just want to buy a few things while I'm waiting :).

hey guys, just a follow up. I am going to buy a Norinco M4 and a Ruger SR-22. I also am going to buy a Vortex Strikefire and Vortex Crossfire 4-12x40 to switch between the 2 rifles. Im going to get the Strikefire AR version that comes with the tallest rings I think. I just need to buy the right rings for the Crossfire. Would i just buy the tallest rings for it to? I just want to be able to swap scopes between rifles when i go to the range depending on what type of shooting i want to do. Any help would be appreciated.

set up each gun with one scope and leave it.every time the scope is removed and re-installed you will have to re-sight the whole set up.pick which scope will be on which rifle and use that rifle for that particular type of shooting.you might have to get a scope with a different type of reticle and or power range for one of them.
