Quick way to fix your gong chain in the field and keep on shooting.

Have witnessed Kevin M's gold chained gongs take'n the pounding 'n keep on hanging on. Amazing tough they are.

That said, it's mostly high tec premium double tempered common baling wire, that keeps all 'o me's deep-pocked low budget mild steel clangers up and off of the swampy muckbeds.
Sometimes I luck into some stout wire cable in the dumpster at work.
Any port in a storm!. he he :dancingbanana:

Another vote for transport 70 chain. I have not used it for a target chain, but I have used it at my work site and it is just fine for jobs that stretch and break other grades, would be surprised if it didn't work well to hold a target.

Has anybody tried using tire chain because it is tougher than regular chain?

Rubber or seatbelt /old tow strap as suggested. Hundreds of rounds with little to no damage. 4-12" of old mudflap or belting will likey never be an issue of breakage.

Might try rubber after I shoot out these chains. Would not mind some more details about using seat belts too. Like wandering around the junk yard but knowing them they would charge me $1 a foot anyways.

Today's (Feb 17 thru March 1) Princess Auto flyer has Grade 70 transport chain on sale lol meant to be I guess. For the guys that are using it. What thickness are you using? Probably only going to be hit by 7mm rem-mag and .308.

Rubber bungees with the s hooks - cheap and can take lotsa hits.

I do the same, I start with 2 bungees on each side of the steel plate so if one gets hit you can just carry on and replace the bungee next time you paint targets. If you buy the bungees in bulk there pretty cheap.

Most tire chains are too brittle, even a 308 will shatter them. Luckily I had 8 extra targets laying around ready for such an occasion. I was given 2 sets of grader chains and some tractor chains and cut them all up only to find out they didn't work very well. What I use now is a piece of pipe welded to the target and hang it from a piece of sucker rod or hardened steel drilling bar. Never any issues after the change over. And they spin if hit well. Still hear the hit too.
Gone fishing.
