Quiet .22 ammo

My son & I used up a box of CB longs the other day with a Winchester 67A, an old Savage & two TOZ 78's. You literally could not hear a gun shot, only metal clicking. We were both amazed. You could shoot them in your basement and not disturb the wife ! Shooting at spinner targets and not much movement of the targets when hit so we assume not a lot of poop in them. Like shooting a pellet gun.
Also tried some Remington sub sonics which were quite quiet, but a distinct bang was heard. Much louder than the CB's. Also tried Winchester regular velocity which were a lot quieter than the usual high velocity stuff.

PMC Moderators . Sounds like a pellet gun . They feed in my 10/22 and the story i was told is that they were designed for animal control officers to dispatch critters without upsetting the neighbours . I can't confirm the story but can confirm that they are very quiet .

Remington Sub-sonics are the most quiet round I've used. I fired them off a bridge out of my Cooey 82 and the sound of the striker falling was actually louder than the shot. Seriously.

CB shorts are real quiet too.

CCI CBLong are the quietest in my opinion, but if you fire them from a handgun, they're still loud. Like a big firecracker.

From a rifle, the noise goes down dramatically.

By the way, I was wondering if there was any powder in those CB cartridges...? I've heard that the bullet is only propelled by the primer, and since bullet pullers are not rimfire friendly, I can't really check it out...

The Winchester hollowpoint asked about earlier is all I usually use (as I have a couple of bricks of it), but it is generally louder than most other long rifle I've shot. Definatly not in the running towards quietest .22 ammo.

Looking at the speeds from the "no-powder" rounds... Wouldn't it technically remove the definition of a firearm? As it is firing under 500fps?

Man I love our gun laws. :D
