hey guys.
i have my PAL, and im upgrading to r-pal.
when i applied for my pal i received 2 copies of my safety course certificate back. i sent both in.

now i just got 2 copies again, and im wondering if i need to submit both or just 1 copy?
at the bottom it says :
COPY 1 - STUDENT COPY FOR SUBMISSION WITH FIREARMS APPLICATION
COPY 2 - PROCESSING SITE
COPY 3 - INSTRUCTOR
COPY 4 - CFO

anyone know?
i would call them but im mailing it out tomorrow

It was a bad idea for sending both in for the PAL. Its always good to keep a copy.
As for the RPAL proof of training (course certificate, every one has a different name for it.), again, keep a copy for yourself, and send one copy in to the CFC.
Happy shooting, and welcome to CGN.

thanks guys.
i have photocopies for my non r forms, and this time a kept one of the stamped forms they sent me.

how long does it generally take to get a att processed?
im already a full member at a range...actually joining another range too.

Depending upon the province, the applicant, and the firearms officer, some ATT applications are processed instantly, some on the same day, and some within about two weeks, but some may take months.

hey guys,
so i did my phone interview with RCMP, my references did their interviews.
whats the next step i have to wait for, and what time frame am i looking at?

i would really like to take ownership and possession of something i paid about a grand for about 8 months ago...right now my friend is enjoying the use of a free loner .45 lol
(maybe i should have taken the course earlier lol)

i also just joined another club, i think ill get my ATT through the new one, they seem to be quicker with the paperwork.

It's variable. It can take a month to many months. I know a friend who did his RPAL at the same time as his girlfriend. She got hers in under a month and he waited five months for his and only after I bugged him to call them to see what the hold up was.

are you talking 1-5 months from the date of taking the course, sending in the forms or completing the RCMP phone interview and reference checks?

my course was in november, forms sent in mid january, interviews last week.
so im already at 3 months. give or take a few weeks, and mine is a upgrade from PAL to RPAL.

i guess my application is now at the CFO??

update**
my friend that i took the course with sent in all his forms the same dates as me, and we did the phone interviews for each other the same dates got his r-pal in the mail on friday.
my mailman is lazy and hasnt come by since last wednesday..(seriously...he only comes 1-2 days a week...suppose to be daily) so hopefully he comes today and it is here.

so he got his 9days after the phone interview...thats really fast!

edit-
mailman showed up....finally...
but no r-pal yet... still playing the waiting game.

just checked online..i know the status hasnt changed since friday because they dont work weekends... but i know its at the cfo, just dont know if this means its just got to be printed and mailed or what.
ill call tomorrow afternoon and see what they say.

this is what it says online:
Current Status: Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date.

How do you know it's at the CFO and not still at the CFC?

And what province are you in?

Personally, I'd call the 800 number and get Miramichi on the phone. Politely ask if there's anything you can do to move your application along. "A friend who took the course with me already has his license in-hand. I know we did our telephone interviews on the same day too. May I speak with the officer or agent who's processing my application?". If they say your application is waiting at the CFO's office (like you say), ask to be transferred or request the phone number to call that office directly. You can also call the 800 number, press 1 for english, and 5 for ATT's. That will connect you with the CFO's office... at least it works here in Ontario.

If you call the CFO's office, again politely ask if there's anything you can do to "assist in completing the application and issuing my license." If they give you some static on they're busy and will get to it, again ask for the officer who's dealing with your application.

"I understand your office is very busy with applications, but friends took the same course with me and already have their license in hand. The website says mine has not even been issued yet. That tells me there's a problem with my application, and I need to speak with the officer in charge of it."

While it's not right, these people can bury your application indefinitely. So be nice! Oh and don't call late afternoon. If you're on the phone with them and the clock rolls past 5:00, you get cut off. Don't ask me how I know.

im in ontario.
i know its at the CFO because i called the 1800# last week and they told me it was there.
then i called the CFO (she gave me a reference # and a extension) and spoke with a lady who pulled up the application. she was very polite, but yes i got the "we are very busy" response.. i said yes im aware i just wanted to ensure everything was going ok. she said all that was left was my background check i think. she also said to call back in a week and she would have more info and she said she would bump it up in the computer cue to speed it up. i said great thank you.

i have to say, she was much more polite than i expected from what i have read online about calling in, i hope i get her on the phone again when i call back and not someone else who is in a bad mood.

Ahh, ok well that is progress at least. I've had nothing but plesant conversations with everyone I've spoken to regarding firearms - even the interviewer. But if someone pulled up the application then it has not been lost or buried.

I've heard if you have a common name it WILL take longer. And if you answered Yes to any of the "In the past 5/2 years..." questions it will also take longer while they verify your story.

When you call back next week ask for the name of who you're talking to and their extention. I have a name for one person at the CFO's office who was incredibly helpful in explaining the limitations for ATT's. If you need information later you can call back to the same person.

I've had my RPAL for six months now so I've been through the entire process and I can relate everyone's anxiousness and pain. As for your comment above. I called the CFC and CFO offices several times and everyone was EXTREMELY polite and very helpful, there were no exceptions. Almost to the point of being over polite if that is possible.

Do not expect to receive much assistance from them until your application status is available on the CFC web site. But once posted I found them to be very helpful.

My advise to you and everyone else is ALWAYS be polite when you speak to them.

i dont see why they would have a reason to be rude unless they are having a bad day. maybe they just really like their jobs. seriously, its a government job, probably pays well and they get all the stat holidays... sounds way better than my job to me!

what is the CFC website?
do you mean this link?
http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cfp-pcaf/online_en-ligne/app_dem-eng.htm

so mine says that it started processing on jan 20, so according to their website it says 45 days, i getting close to that, so i dont have much more time to wait. just wish i would have it for this weekend, im going to my range orientation on saturday and it would be nice to give them the rpal info and not just my pal (non restricted) so i can get my ATT application going, but i need to get my first restricted and temp ATT before i can even get a Long term ATT anyway...so i dont think ill have it by this weekend. oh well.

"Our service standards to process a complete and accurate application are 45 days, including the 28-day legislated waiting period, for a licence application, and 30 days for a registration application."
