We got a real bad problem with racoons out at our old farm, the little bastards are tearing everything up, and I cant seem find them during the day, and I have set up a live trap numerous times, just to find the bate gone, and the door shut on it. So they are getting into the trap, but getting back out! So does anyone have any advice on how to get rid of the little bastards? I dont have any other traps to use other than my live trap, and I really dont care if they live...:sniper:

What are you using for bait? Firmly attach the bate to the back of the trap. Bungy the trap to the ground so they can't flip it over. What kind of live trap do you have? You may have to modify the floor/trip plate by putting a small piece of wood under the part closest to the door so the racoon actually steps on the back end when the trap is tripped. Another thing you may want to try - I never have. Drill a fairly deep 1 inch hole into a log and put something shiny at the bottom. The racoon will put his paw around the object and not be able to draw his paw unopened out of the hole. Since he will never let go - you've got him. Just what I have heard.

I've heard that about monkies too only you use a fluted metal object.

as for the racoons get a coon dog (beg, borrow or buy) and go hunting.

spotlights and a shotgun work well, make sure your live trap is big enough, sounds a little small to me. If you have water nearby and have some conibear traps PM me and I'll tell you a easy way to catch lots of them.

fly bait and cokeacola. Mix a bunch together and put it up high somewhere that a cat/dog/child couldnt get at, but a coon can. Every coon that laps up some of that stuff will be dead less then 20 feet away.

Old farmers trick.

I've a friend from Florida who's got a summer house in North Carolina (I think). He's always complaining to me about the 'gawd damn raccoon's'. Doesn't matter what he does, they get into the garbage. He got in one evening late, to find 3 of em in his headlights at his trash. he honked, no reaction. He got out, threw rocks at them. no reaction. He pulled out his Browning Hi Power and shot one, the others ran away. From my understanding, he's not seen them since. to make it particularly funny, the next morning, he went outside and his trashcan and the body of the raccoon (which he threw into the bushes nearby...it's in a remote community) was gone. seems a bear came through and took care of it all!

#220 conibear and a 5 gal pail. put the bait at the back of the pail and the trap in the opening. make sure there are no kids or dogs around tho.

The conibear is the best way to go! Me and Dad have trapped 100's of the little SOB's in the last couple of years. The method above works great! another method that works well (for us anyway)is a 15 gallon drum on end,top cut off. Set the trap half way down the barrel 2x4's work good.Watch your arms and finger's these things will break both Quit well. Through some corn at the bottom. They can't resist the corn it's like crac to them. Find place to dump the vermin. And your set. Also less likely to have your pets wander into it.We were runing low on cat's!good luck.

Even Raccoons know not to mess with JMB's creations...

Just bait them, pull up a lawnchair, and wait for them with the 12ga around dusk .... You're probably going to have to do it several nights in a row., when they stop coming, just keep the bait there and do the 12ga trick all over again after a week or 2.

cornmeal mixxed with warafin at the bottom of a 50 galllon drum works well. It is easy and you won't blow yourself up with an improperly placed stupid ass shot gun trap. Other thing we used to do is float a small peice of 2x4 in the middle of the barrel (half full of water) and the animals would jump and then drown, just make sure you check the barrel every day or it gets a bit nasty.

Second again the conibear. Put the pail up on a post 4 or 5 feet above the ground. Dogs can't climb so that excludes any from getting nailed. As for cats... who cares!
