A racoon was around our house last night, right after a light fall of snow.
Gave the place a good looking over. A cat quite often comes around at night, but luckily it didn't last night!
Racoon claws are so sharp, they have slashed open a plastic bag of garbage they found and there were cuts in the plastic from each toe, without even crumpling the plastic.
One also once scratched my car door. I guess he smelled something that smelled like food in the car. To a racoon, everything smells like food!
I'm not too familiar with them, but I think this is the tracks of a big one.

They are vicious and destructive little suckers. Once they find food around they will keep coming back. I no longer have a pond with goldfish in it.

sooo...are you going to shoot it?

Sure would if I could figure out how.
Illegal to shoot where I live, plus they oly show up in the dark.
Years ago when they were plentiful in south western BC, but virtually no where else in the province, I knew hunters who would travel 400 miles with dogs to tree them and shoot them at night.

Get a live trap amd shoot him in the morning..i have chickens and this was the way i contoled them...must have got 10 last fall..

Bruce, let me know if you run low on racoons.... I can spare a couple.
Every night / morning about 3 am we have a family troop through looking for trouble and food.
Yes, we cannot shoot also.

H, I think you're bored and making up stories......
Wasn't that a pair of boots you had resouled with the critter
pattern on for tread?
Tugg'in our weenie.......you.......... : )

220 Connibare Trap works fine, real quiet, do you like the cat that visits? Is the owner a good neighbor? Nuf said. Respectfully Jim. Also they make a small leg trap strictly for coons, I use a marshmallow in mine. Check with your trapper supply place.

Live trap works nice, took a couple weeks but the remnants of rabbit inards drew him in, had to keep him away from my chickens and keep the rabbit from eating the plants in the garden.
