Hello everyone, I just got the new bargain AR from Radical Firearms, their RF15. A number of sellers just got them from O'Dell for a good price, around the $700-$800 mark. I'm happy to report quite a few things, and some other things, not so much. I've got the standard M&P 15 Sport II to compare to.

First, this thing is tight, and feels like a champ just at first glance and handling. Everything is well put together, snug, no real sharp edges, burrs or bad machining. Much better on the interior and exterior than the MP 15 and quite a few other AR's I have owned. It comes in a box with foam just like the Sport II, but a manual on a thumb drive, and a couple of stickers, no magazine included. The bolt assembly, barrel, rail, bird cage hider, accent parts, buffer tube and lower are top shelf looking and feeling in every way. The RF15 comes with an MFT stock and pistol grip which are first rate, really a nice touch. The bad is the sloppy cast marked trigger, unstaked castle nut screw and gas block, completely out of spec upper rail picatinny on receiver and rail (My elcans won't fit due to ARMS mount... theyre sloppy), and mine has a really weird dust cover which doesn't want to close unless you take a small flat screwdriver and force the spring loaded detent in to close it, really bizarre and someone actually did that at factory to put it back together to test function, what the #####? Also one of my indicators for select fire has an incomplete "FIRE" engraving that looks like the dude or computer was a bit shallow and did not completely write the lettering out deep enough.

Otherwise, on first inspection, it's hard to tell it's a sub $1k AR just from how tight, robust and light this thing is. The melonite coating is much, much nicer than on the MP 15, but really, we will see over time how it lasts because S&W's melonite coatings have been pretty much non issue for a lot of people stateside, where as Radical has quite a stir over their process and coating, even though on mine, from first look, is top notch.

Anyhow, I put my Trijicon Accupower 1-4 on it, along with a few MFT LAR mags and will go to the range to test accuracy. One thing about these guns is that they are rated decently for 5.56, 55gr in 1/7 barrel, but even Rob Ski from AK Operators union on Youtube really could not fault the barrel at near 5k rounds, so I'm excited to see how mine will do.

The gun has the potential to completely dethrone the MP 15 Sport II as the king of budget AR's... soon nobody will give a #### about Nork and hopefully those sloppy but goes bang turds can disappear.

why is it so important for an upper and lower to be tight?
No, accuracy and reliability are not valid reasons.

How can a rifle with an out of spec rail dethrone anything? at best it's sitting next to a nea.

I'll need to read this again tomorrow since I'm running on close to 40hrs without sleep. But the engraving on the safe/fire is ####ed,the rail is out of spec and the dust cover dosnt close yet you think this rifle has potential? How the #### can this even be considered to be better then the sport 2? I'm trying to wrap my mind around how you can be pleased by a nice buffer tube (whoopty doo) yet with an out of spec rail it would be "hard to tell it's a sub 1k ar " I really need to read this again after some sleep becouse right now it sounds like your eigther a shill or you have some really screwed up priorities.

Been hitting the sauce a bit, but whatever I have posted is my own opinion just from the few hours I've owned it (The CanPost guy did just deliver a gun on a holiday, crazy). From looks and feel alone it's actually very nice compared to my Sport 2, and the annoyances are minor (Not everyone has ARMS mount optics that cannot be adjusted for different spec rails, and the dust cover fix is a small problem). I don't find these to be killer faults on the rifle or the manufacturing at all, but just nitpick things I've found compared to run of the mill AR's. These guys are new and their rifles seem to be hit or miss... from the first glace I've given it, the misses are just cosmetic and annoyance, though the out of spec rail I've searched for and only found a couple posts here and there on, but do not think it's an isolated case to my rifle. The gun is tight, feels good, the finish is completely even and there were absolutely no blems, unlike my Sport II, which had quite a few blems, actually, ALOT.)

I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt, if the rifle is accurate and feeds reliably, this is the best bargain AR you can get. The main optic that I wanted to use anyway is on there and snug, and the gun feels like it's ready to compete. I may get a competition trigger for this if the first 1k rounds really impress me.

Again, my 0.02. I might be the first guy with the gun on CGN posting this, so whatever it's worth, it's a first thread.

Thanks, you’ve made sure I’ll never touch one of these. If you can’t get the rail and dust cover (how? HOW!?) in spec, how much of the critical parts are waiting to fall apart. At least Sport II’s are milspec, staking can be bad from the few reviews I’ve read/watched but not everyone stakes anyways.

I really couldn't get over the out of spec rail too. I've only tried my Trijicon Accupower on an American Arms Manuf cantilever mount, and my eotech which obviously fit fine. It was until I put on my SpecterOS4 that I was like, what the ####? Then I noticed the dust cover and that just blew me away. The biggest visual complaint though is the hideous hammer which has a huge seam which looks like it was cast in the vietnam effing tunnels. Just hoping it's contained to both because I can live with either if this thing hits shots like Rob Ski in his Youtube test. My Sport II can't even touch that accuracy even with the Radical going through nearly 5k of steel balls to the wall.

I’ve not heard of this brand but from the OP’s description, it doesn’t seem to do anything better than the M&P, QC sounds suspect and you can get the, arguably, proven M&P for less.
Unless it has match accuracy, I’m not sure what it’s selling point exactly is. Maybe your range report can help. Either way, enjoy your new AR.

Also, don't get me wrong, my Sport II has been with me for a couple of years now and I adore the thing. Some of the hype of watching Rob Ski, who I respect a lot, has me optimistic, even if the issues are absolutely bonkers to think they would even pass any major manufacturers QC.

These guys are more like a boutique shop, but they're batting in a territory where Sport II's and Norks have near flawless reputations.

We'll see what this does on the range when my liver can go on his own holiday.
