Pulled this off of Facebook, not sure of original author but as seen on the 'SXS Shotgun Society' page. At first glance, I thought he was holding a device for throwing the clays, not busting them.

"This shooter from Dubai has won a worlds championship with a SXS with custom rib. I belive he also was the man responsible for the big sporting clay shoots there. He was known for flying in on his private jet to many shoots. Wish I could meet him a great supporter of shooting."

Ribs like that have been around a LONG time in the trap shooting world. Look at the height of the stock. The idea behind the high stock/high rib guns is for heads up eyes level shooting. That is why so many of today's trap guns are made with high ribs and stocks.
 
I don't think that is current news, I think he was shooting tgat SxS well in the World's a few years back .
IIRC he was promoting Sporting Clays but he was an Int'l Skeet shooter?

Dang straight on that. Al Ljutic's Space Gun be one of the forerunners in the high rib set-up. His straight line design needed the extra rib height
to compensate for the lack of drop in the stock. My trap guns since 2010 have been set up along the Space Gun layout, albeit with kitted pump
actions wearing holo sights.

The lack of eye protection was so obvious, I missed the lack of hearing protection. I had a mark almost dead center of one lens of my shooting glasses, from a pellet that came back off of a target, that was enough to prove the value of shooting glasses to me. I had a 70+ year old swear and curse at me a couple of years ago, because I wouldn't let him shoot skeet on our field without eye protection. I finally had to direct him off of the field, and we haven't seen him since.

Our club has a mandatory rule that everyone, including spectators, must wear eye protection! We have probably 20 plus sets of loaner glasses, as well as foam earplugs etc. of course not when inside the clubhouse

Years ago there were a couple of shooters at my club with Ljutic space guns. They sure got lots of attention but only a few shooters used them in ATA trap. However, the concept of a higher than normal rib is now common in competitive shooting. I tried a mid rib in sporting clays and it didn't affect my shooting one way or the other so I went back to a low rib. Of course, after many years of shooting I am old school in my ways. Comes with age.

The last time we were out I was explaining the importance of glasses to a new shooter who was questioning it- just before I took a big piece of clay to the face on a high 8 shot!
Especially in skeet, safety glasses cannot be overemphasized!

Did you guys not consider that maybe he wasn’t actually shooting when that picture was taken? Or are we pretending that no one here has ever shouldered and unloaded shotgun without eye and ear protection?

Oh yeah. In my early days of shooting, I took a ricochet from a buckshot pellet and it contacted directly on the lens of my sunglasses and then deflected downward and off my cheek, leaving a small abrasion to bleed freely.
I learned quickly, always wear eyes and ears, and certainly don't shoot steel targets with Buckshot, especially that close. (I was young and dumb lol).

Thankfully I still have my eyes in tact, but I'll never forget that lesson. Eyes and ears gents...
 
He doesn’t have to wear glasses in international trap.

You also don’t have to wear ear protection in one shotgun sport at least but that’s another topic.

Optical distortion, specifically parallax, is the downside for safety glasses. With a good pair of optometrist produced lenses, even for non prescription lenses, it would only be noticed at the highest levels of competition.

Wear safety glasses when shooting.

I've never seen a "scaffold" on a shotgun. Truely impressive !

Oh to be a Sheikh, race horses, football team, private jets, international shooting competitions.....

I've never shot anything with a rib like that, on the contrary I tend to gravitate to low ribs.
Speaking of Space Guns, I haven't shot one with the high rib but I did shoot one with a scope for a few trap targets. It was hard to evaluate how well it works since the gun had a release trigger and I hadn't shot one before so that was hard to get used to.
