(thought we should move this out of the Silver Willow thread.)

Rob,

You should come out to Radium in the spring for the Elmer Fudd and the fall Bugaboo Blast competitions. You're mind will be blown.

T..........

Sounds like fun, but a lot of driving and an overnight. Elmer Fudd? Hunting Wabbits? Is it the course or the 19th hole that make it special?

You’ll be hard pressed to find somebody who doesn’t say it’ll be one of, if not the best shoots you’ll go to. Vince can set some magical targets on a great property.

Prices are very reasonable. Food is always great. The people put on a great show.

You can camp on the property. Lots of minglying and comradery. Delicious food passed around, talks of the shoot, etc.

We’d need an update as I heard third hand that the shoots may be ending. As with anything, sounds like lack of help. I’d rather not bug Vince in an email, but maybe somebody knows him better and get a feel.

Salter posted this on the other thread:

“CNSCA has received 2018 shoots dates at Radium for Elmer Fudd, May 12 & 13. Bugaboo Blast will be Aug 30 to Sep 2 with the BC Provincials being Sep 1 & 2.”

While offering my help, I have confirmed with Vic that they will indeed be proceeding with the "big" shoots this year at Radium.

It's some of their smaller shoots that may be cancelled, and due to the food requirement, the large events may be hosted and the price reflecting the upcharge for this service.

We did the first few Elmer Fudd and Bugaboo Blast shoots that Radium held but due to the work schedule we've been unable to make it out there for the last couple of years. Hope to get there this year is these are some of the best shoots in western Canada as far as I'm concerned!

Radium puts on superb shoots. Vic and the crew work their collective butts off to ensure a good shoot, a great time for all participants. Thanks Vic and crew.

It’s a beautiful range, well worth the time, drive and expenses to attend.

What are these shoots? Shotgun only? 3-gun? Tac rifle? I've never even heard of them, and I grew up like 15km south of Radium!!? I can't find much info on their website

These are all sporting clays events. They have been going on since about 2010. Not sure when you left Radium, the shooting range is 5+ km west of Radium on the Horsethief Forest Service Road and has been there since 1987.

Looks like an update on Radium events is in order.

Elmer Fudd shoot, May 12 & 13. All rabbit and low flying targets only. 80 targets Sat am, 80 targets Sat pm and 100 targets Sunday am. Lunch both days and hors d'oeuvres on Saturday afternoon after shooting is complete. Enjoy one of the restaurants in Radium for your Saturday evening dinner.

New for 2018, Godfather Challenge Jul 27-29. This is a pyramid ladder format the top position being the "Godfather". Next level has 2 positions, 3rd level has 3 positions, etc. The event is limited to 45 shooters meaning 9 different levels. Initial starting positions on the ladder will be by random draw. The objective is to work your way to the Godfather position by challenging a person on a higher level to a 20 target competition. If you win the challenge you trade places with the person you challenged. If you don't win, there is no change in the ladder position. There will be about 10 different shooting venues so the challenger gets to pick the venue they think best suits their ability. Handicaps will apply and if you don't like your handicap you can negotiate for $$$omething more favorable. Assuming 45 shooters, there will be cash prizes for the top 5 levels. The entire theme will be Italian. Bonus for using a shotgun made in Italy. Multi course, Italian family style dinner on Saturday evening, wine included. Italian theme lunches Sat and Sun. Meet & Greet Friday evening with wine and cheese. Challenges will be $5 per person for 20 targets. That obviously won't cover total event costs so there will be a cover charge for food, prizes, beverages, etc. Budget still being worked on but likely about $120. If you have Mafia style clothing, you might want to wear it. So you get the idea, there will be shooting, Italian food, booze, extortion, side bets, perhaps protection money but don't count on drugs or prostitution.

Bugaboo Blast, Aug 30 to Sep 2. Aug 30, practice session, Super Sporting format. Also on Aug 30, ladies and juniors shoot clinic. Morning session is for experienced shooters, afternoon session for novices. Limited to 6 participants each session. No cost for participants for instruction, targets, ammo or lunch. There are currently 2 slots open in both the morning and afternoon sessions. Instructor is Carl Brewster. Aug 31, Prelim for men, 120 targets. Ladies team competition, 120 targets, for the fairer ###. BC Provincials, 340 targets, on Sep 1 and 2. Prizes for out of province. Class options will also apply. Final details under development.

Ah, ok, thanks. Lived in Invermere until the early 1990s, and I knew there was a range somewhere out on Horsethief, but as I'm only back for a few days a year visiting family I've never checked it out. Might have to next time I'm up.

I am one of many Alberta residents that is refusing to spend any money in BC. until this nonsense is over.

I have to say that the thought has crossed my mind as well.

The people I feel sorry for are the Albertan's (and others) who have property in BC with the new tax that's coming out. That should be reason enough to boycott BC even with out pipeline troubles as obviously they don't want tourist dollars.
