Just picked up a couple of VISs .... had a question about the barrel bushing - hopefully someone knows for sure.

- how is the bushing attached to the slide? Squadron303 indicated it might be pinned, I cam across another forum posting insisting that it was threaded looking at it appears it ~could~ be a heat fitting...

Anyone know for sure? [i.e. have you ever actually had it apart?]

and of course..... the pic.

nice score!
is there a name written on the bottom of the left grip of the black one? a shot in the dark looking for my uncles...

Those brown grips look original to me.

Sean I can send up pictures of evidence that the barrel bushing is pinned. Give me a day or two.

I think the confusion arises about screwed in vs. pinned because the original 1932 patent showes a screwed in bushing. They are in fact permanantly fitted and pinned.
Anyways, I will send you pictures of where the pin is located. If the gun has bluing over the area, it is difficult to find it.

Here is a nicely blued early occupation gun. If you look closely, the pin is a different kind of blue, as it was a slightly different metal. It's a little difficult to see, but believe me, it's there.

In my opinion, tampering with that might destroy the slide, and most certainly, the collectibility of the gun. There still are lots of good condition/mismatched shooter-grade VIS out there. Enjoy this one for what it is and be on the lookout for another!

PM me with your email address and I can email you more/better pictures.

Yup - I see it now. It's a little easier to find on the brown gripped one [all matching - I believe the grips are original. considering the source] because the machining is rougher. On the black gripped one [no name on grip] it shows as a VERY slightly darker patch of blue.

Was speaking with Nick over at Vulcan about these & fixing up the bushing issue [you saw the pic of that squadron] if that can be done on the black handled one.... slide is mis-matched so collectibility..? meh.

of course if I could find a slide for it...

You're right Sean. Working on a mismatched slide... not the end of the world.
Good luck and keep us posted on what happens.
Shoot it first and see if it really need fixing or if it's just cosmetic.

FYI, stripped slides do come up, especially on eBay.

Very nice Radoms thanks for sharing. I had the opportunity to buy one in the early 80s at Lahr, never did, and regretted it ever since.
