rail accessories... What to do...

Ok Call me a Geek when I buy anything I have a tendancy to option it out...

So I get this 11.5 inch Bushy flat top and I've now;
Changed the 4 position to a 6 position
Changed the selector from stock to a STAR
Changed the Grip to a hogue
added an aimpoint clone
changed the front furniture to an M73
added an M96
added a nick forgrip
added a bipod
added magpuls to my magazines

I've got a trigger kit coming...
I've got a Phantom (is that a break or an FS?) to install
I've got 2 empty rails what else can I add...

I'll post a pic as soon as I get some issues at work resolved...

Just reading that I thought I'd better clarify that the pictures won't be from the front page of the newspaper under the headline Geek takes gun to work!

Someone should have told you mounting a bipod to a non free float fore-end is going to change your point if impact and stress your rifle. :)
 
The M73 is a not free float it hooks into the Handguard cap and onto the delta ring...

the M96 is a 9v surefire.. And for now I have the aimpoint clone.. I'm actually thinking eotech but I'll probably have to put it on a riser to get over the front sight...

You really don't need to bother with a riser. Your focus should be on the target. The sight blurs right out. Larue and YHM do make nice ones though:D
 
Flashlight doesn't have the same effect as you leaning on the weapon with a bipod on it. Its not free float, no rail-handguard system is going to change that unless it is free floating. You're still leaning on the barrel.

But seriously most of the toys arrived yesterday and I've been oncall for what seems like forever... I'll likely get out with it in the next day or so...

I guess I misread or am missing something... I get it that you are telling me that I shouldn't have the bipod on the gun but I don't understand why.. What makes a bipod worse then putting your arm up on the handguard to support it when laying prone? Or just wrapping the slip around your arm for support..

On a fixed guard sytem I don't see a problem on a free float I can see you "flexing" the handguard... I don't see where you say I'm leaning on the rifle or how the POI is impacted...

I'm not claiming to be an expert just trying to understand what you are saying...

Other can perhaps explain it better, but since I've confused you I better fix it. With handguards attached to the barrel assembly, any pressure on the handguard pressures the barrel also. When you support the handguards in normal stance, the firearm is resting in your hands, which puts minimal (if any at all) stress on the barrel. When you have a free float tube or rail system mounted on your upper, it is free of contact with your barrel. This means that if you have accessories or a bipod on your handguard/rail/tube they will not touch the barrel and therefore not stress it. The barrel is then consistent each and every shot as pressure is applied to it from you. However, when you do not have a free floating device and mount a bipod onto a non-FF handguard, the force from the bipod will push the barrel up, and shift your POI up. This is why on guns that are built for high levels accuracy, free floating barrels are the standard.

This may or may not matter to you depending on the intended use of your firearm. I hope this is clear, if not, I'll try again. :)

OK.. I think I understand but I'm we are not talking significant amounts of force and this is a CQB setup...
 
Fair, thats why I included 'depends on your use'. An SBR thats not going to see distances past 150m, no sweat. 600m and beyond is going to be a big difference. :)

Well why did I start this thread I want it all.. Every option.. I mean like Air conditioning in a convertable...
Will it be usefull who knows.. After I play with it for a while if I find it's too much I can take it off.. But I still have 2 rails with nothing on them so I still need to add some accessories....

On another note and I'm sure there is a thread somewhere but search seems to bite; How do you re & re the flash hider... does it need heat, is it loctited ????
