Rain gear choices?

So I'm in the need of new rain gear. Was out hunting yesterday, we got like 30mm of rain and I got soaked. Was going to stay out overnight and sleep in the truck but with my boots, jacket, and gloves being soaked I ended the trip early.

So, what sort of gear do people use to stay dry? I'm already in the market for some rubber boots so I'm mainly focused on jacket and pants. My ideal choice would be something that's not lined (otherwise I'll just sweat), doesn't weigh much(I'll have to carry it in my pack, so if it's too heavy it'll get left in the truck), and truely 100% waterproof (I don't want wet shoulders from my pack straps, and there is always lots of 2foot tall underbrush I'm walking through).

In the truck I keep some cheap Coleman brand pvc coated rain gear, which I spent the last two hours of the night in, but it's pretty heavy so it never makes it into the pack.

So, with this in mind, what do you guys use to stay truely dry? What materials are best? Brands that suck or don't suck? Thanks!

The CF CAD Pat Goretex Rain Gear is pretty good, not sure if you can buy it from a surplus outlet or not. I wear kamik ice breakers for foot wear, dry and good grip on slippery rocks, snow etc.

Halley Hansen and Sitka are apparently the best, but big bucks. I looked at the Sitka rain gear almost $1000,.... if I get posted back to BC I will invest in it. My 2 cents.

I use CF surplus rubber rain gear. It's impervious to water but is noisy to move in. Awesome for sitting in a blind though.

x2 on the impertech, wore it while fishing in river's inlet during a rain storm, stayed nice and dry...I think if you want to stay dry in BC rain you have to go with PVC, the gore tex etc wets out eventually

And that's the thing. I need something that will not soak through over time. It rains a lot on the coast...

The issued gear is horrible.. it holds water, does not repel

I see you are in Vancouver, take a trip to North Van and check out the Arc'teryx outlet store, not cheap but good kit.

Arc'teryx makes excellent rain gear. I've had one of their rain coats for 10 years and I've never gotten wet. It's just a shell. Their gear is expensive but it's made to military specs. If you can afford it you will not go wrong with Arc'teryx.

i second that as well, it’s crap and once soaked is nothing but dead weight that keeps on gaining as it rains

i use US army puncho with CF rain pants to keep the wet underbrush off my legs, not a big fun of the pants, for years used to just wear reg pants and wait till they dry off with time and body heat but sometimes you just need rain pants
