An interesting night at work.
People started noticing a couple of ducks on the ground around 9pm. Then a few more calls on the radio. Ducks everywhere. There were very lethargic and flightless. There had to be a few dozen in the grass and on the roads. We are also beside a river building a pumphouse. Workers said they have never seen that many ducks in one place, the river was full, maybe a thousand ducks.
We had to shut down the site for a couple of hours until the ducks were all moved to safety. Several were caught by hand and a few were injured. The theory is that the ducks were brought down by freezing rain.
A couple of foxes on site were very happy with their bonanza. I saw one little fella carrying a duck off.
Off to bed now...........
