I was just checking and handpriming a batch of once fired nickel 38 Special brass I got from Marstar.

I came across a handful of cases with the head stamp "RAMSET 37"

These look a lot like 38 Special at first glance, but are definitely not upon close examination. As a test, I ran one through my dies as a dummy round (no primer or powder) and they fed just fine.

What are these?

Sounds like ramset charges, ammo for driving spikes into concrete, lol

You may be on to something there!

But I have never seen one this big (and no sign of crimp marks from a blank end), and with a Centre fire pistol like primer either.

Leave it to Marstar to bunch them in with 38 Special. I won't complain about the handful of 357 that were mixed in, but have to raise an eyebrow about these!

There is a good chance that ramset cartridges are made from regular firearm brass. I can't see why they would do it any other way.

I had never thought of it before, now I'm curious....

For years I had a .38 cal Ramset in the service truck. It eventually piled up, due more to storage and transport conditions IMO. Went with a hilti DX 450. Still have it around here somewhere......

Cordless hammer drills kinda killed centre fire powder actuated tools.

Iirc the .38 Ramset cartridges were just a .38 sp case crimped over with no projectile..... Basically a low powered blank round.

I know one fella who years ago used to collect the empties, trimed em down and made light plinking loads with them. 700x powder and just over 650fps iirc..... That old guy is gone now, but some good memories remain......

Cheers!
