I'm just about out of Win 231/HP-38 powder for loading 9mm minor and 38 special. I've looked at Ramshot Zip as a replacement powder; cost is the same and the burn rate is right beside Win 231 so nothing gained or lost on those two points. Those that have tried ZIP, is it any cleaner burning than Win 231? I would switch for that reason alone but if no different, I'll just buy either from the closest retailer.

Plenty of powders will duplicate 231 performance, which is really nothing special. Zip should do as well as most. It's pretty versatile too.

Thanks for the reply but I was curious if Zip was any cleaner burning than Win 231. Advertising copy notwithstanding.

I didn't address that because your load will be the deciding factor. Lots of clean powders can burn dirty and the opposite can be true as well.
Light to mid-range loads in 9mm & 38 Special. I know some powders can be dirty when not loaded to near maximum pressures.
