Hi, I have a chance to buy one and I'm wondering what its worth. The guy said its a service model and the grips aren't original. Looks to be in real nice shape from the pictures I've seen. $800. Thats about all I got to go on so far. Does that sound like a fair price?

Thanks

I had a friend who owned a "left-handed" Randall, and thought it an outstanding pistol. It was all stainless. If it's been taken care of, $800 is probably not an outrageous price for a Randall.

$800 is not out of line for a Randall Service Model in really fine shape. I assume this is a right hand model. Before purchasing, verify the magazines are Randall. The rAndall mags will enhance the value of the pistol.

If you are not aware, there is a very good essay on Randall on www.sightm1911.com. When you get the home page, do a bit of looking around as there are some other good articles there as well.

Reliability!

When they came out back in the 80s, they had a galling problem with those first stainless auto loader and weren't always very reliable function wise.

I had a Randall in the early 80's shortly after they came out. The galling was only an issue for guys running them dry. Lubing the rails with Rig +P and I put 15K rounds through mine with no problems. A great looking 1911 and the machining and finishing was top of the line.

Like an idiot I traded it for something else and regretted it ever since. If it's been reasonably maintained and not modded I think it would be worth $800.

Post photo's after you get it, I haven't seen one in years.

Thanks for all the replies. I've decided to buy the gun and he even dropped his price to $700. I figure even if its not a collector it'll be a good quality shooter at a fair price. I've wanted a 1911 for a while but theres just to much to choose from, this one should be a little unique. I'll be sure to post a few pics once I get it. Should be a week maybe two.

Please post photo's of your new Randall, it's been many years since I've seen one. Mine was really accurate and built very tough. I gather there's some collector interest in randalls in the US.
