I just installed a magpul forend on my 590. During reassembly, a random spring fell on the floor. The gun functions with dummy rounds and everything seems in order but for the life of me, I can't figure this out. I watched a youtube disassembly video and there are no springs this small at any point during the process.

Any help would be appreciated. Here is a photo of the spring:

Unless you messed around inside the trigger group, the only thing I could see that being is either the safety detent spring, which seems unlikely unless you had the safety removed, or the barrel nut detent spring. Did you hear and feel the clicking when you screwed your barrel nut/extension back on?

Barrel nut detent spring... that's gotta be what it is. I have no idea what that part even does or where it goes though.

Edit: Figured out what it is and where it goes. Now to determine if it's essential (I don't believe it is).

Unscrew your barrel nut or magazine extension tube, look on the front end (muzzle end) of the barrel lug, there should be a ball bearing retained with a spring underneath it. if you don't see the ball, the spring is probably gone too.

Sent them an e-mail, thanks.

since the ball likely went flying I would either vacuum the area then check the vacuum bag or get some rare earth magnets put them in a cloth sack attach the sack to the end of a stick and then poke away in the corners of the room and do a sweep along the floor with it.
