I had the chance to shoot my CZ858 Tactical 2 and a buddy's VZ58S side by side today. His rifle is original config with fixed stock, mine is a factory side-folder with a Marshall brake on it.
These thoughts ran through my head when I first shot his '58S:
1) This safety is not as nice as mine,
2) This trigger feels like a bowl of porridge,
3) Is this damn trigger ever going to reset?,
4) Hey, is this that "stock-slapping the cheekbone" thing that folks complain about?
The '58S trigger is spongier with an absolutely horrible and vague reset, and the safety feels much less positive when switching positions. I'd heard the complaint about the "stock slap" but never really believed it until now. I see that the Marshall brake I have on the '858 is probably more effective than I thought. On the un-braked '58S the recoil impulse felt much sharper.
Are the trigger and safety observations typical to the '58S or did my buddy just get a lame one?
