Just fitted a new bolt to my beloved Cooey 750. It's a dandy little singe shot rifle, a previous owner had a really nice set of Williams peep sights installed. So I went to the range with three different ammo types to see what it liked best. I shot 5 shot groups from a bench rest at 20 yards.

I was comparing the following:
1. Remington round nose target (1050fps)
2. Winchester Super X truncated nose Hyper Velocity
3. CCI Blazer Hollow Point (Canadian Tire specials)

Temperature was about -15 degrees C with a medium headwind, my shooting position is sheltered from crosswinds and I was shooting for groups only. I did not score the targets or make an effort to hit the 10 ring.
I was surprised to find that the Super X and CCI's both shot better than the Rem target load. I wonder if the cold weather affects the powders in these loads. It is possible that Remington uses a temperature sensitive powder in the target load as it wouldn't usually be shot in the cold while the other two are essentially hunting loads. Anyway Winchester was the winner today at 0.75" for the best group. I'll repeat the test when it is above zero and if results are similar, I'll buy a few boxes of Win and save some money.
