Range Brass from the Police

I clean up pretty good after the police sometimes. I got a couple boxes of live ammo. Not misfires just stuff that got dropped. Too bad I don't have a .40 or 9mm.

Our local police just leave it laying around at the range even though we supply buckets for it to be discarded into to keep the range clean.

I ended up getting a few hundred last year after they had their training day.

RCMP Brass

Some years back when the RCMP switched to the 9mm semi S & W they used our range to train their people with them. Several surrounding detachments were involved. After they were done we gathered up 3 five gallon pails of brass. Some I reloaded and the rest I sold for scrap which bought several pounds of powder back then.

I don't know what it is about the RCMP and cleaning up because you always know when they have been at our range. There is 9mm brass and 12 gauge buckshot cases everywhere.

I lucked out a few times at the range when I lived in Saskatoon. They were leaving when I showed up, and they'd cleaned up their brass, so it was all in the buckets.

Another time, I mentioned to one of them that I reload, and it would be no problem for me to give the range a quick sweep when they were finished. They pushed 'er into a pile, and let me at it.

We have an outdoor range with a dirt/gravel floor. We are required to pick up our brass after every requalification even at night or in the rain. If someone is not following range rules then they need to be spoken to. If they left it once and no one said anything they probably figure that it is ok.

From the RCMP over 3000 pcs of 9mm brass, and 500 pcs of 308 brass.
From the Alberta Fish and Wildlife Offices, about 1500 pcs of 40S&W brass, and 1500 pcs of 30'06 Brass.

All picked up at our own range.

Most was picked up by them and just left in boxes available to the first commers to arrive after they left.

Oh ya,
thank you.

I walked up to the local ERT while at the range (decked out head to toe in tac gear, AR15 strapped to my back, Glock in the holster. Asked one of the guys what they did with the brass. He said they just leave it. Sat on a bench for ten minutes while they loaded up, put my gear down and filled a couple five gallon pails with .223 and 9mm. Got 50 once fired Federal GMM cases from the department snipers too!

The cop seemed a bit miffed at why I needed so much brass, "what are you ever gonna do with two pails full?" "Load it and shoot it" I said, as if the tac vest with 22 AR mags on me wasn't a dead giveaway that I did spend a bit of time at a gunrange. The police officer was kind enough to let me know the next time they were out training as well, managed another pail or so of once fired brass.

If you see ERT, police training at your range, walk over, introduce yourself and ask for the leftover brass, I have never seen a cop pick up a single piece of brass or a shotgun hull around here, even if its a loaded round that gets dropped. Great source of once fired brass, and we paid for, just go ask for it back!

OPP used to leave the brass at our range now they are taking it with them...:(

They got very angry when I walked in on there training after they where done and set my AR case down on the counter. They still had 5 min on the clock and in the outer lounge area there where 20 AR cases just like mine... I went to put it in the range so a cop wouldn't mistake it for theres and walk off with mine... although there cases say OPP on the outside... fun thing after they where done telling me to take my "Weapon" out of the range until they where done they got locked in because our range has magnetic doors and special FOBs to open... I heard the one cop say to the other we are locked in... I opened the door and held it open there where a bit nicer then.

They also didn't like my holster belt that I set down beside my AR...

there was some police training at our range once and i snagged lots of 9mm brass from on the range itself after they were done;)....

Keep it.

You may one day.

A friend of mine has bought about 2000 rounds of .45 even though he doesn't own a .45. I asked why, and he said ".....just in case I buy one in the future."

Sounds good to me.

Are there any EPS members here on CGN? What do the Edmt police do with their range brass? I would love to get my hands on some .40 S&W

being military we pick up and sand bag all our brass and machine gun links on the range. to an anle extent. Even out in the field its not that uncommon to do attack scenarios and after have the soldiers in extended lines sweeping for brass to pick up and sandbag. Leave it in better shape than you found it is the army moto.

Our local cops and wardens litter our range with thousands of pieces of brass, and I find LOTS of live rounds as well. I WISH they would take it with them. Dis find a few of the darts they use on bears, as well. They look cool in the pencil holder on my desk.
