Monday I spent the day on the range with boys from Stoeger, and Thomas Pigeon and the Canada in the Rough Crew, it was a great day.
We had a look at many of the new Stoeger products, Benelli, Beretta, Franchi, Stoeger, Burris etc. and then shot them... a lot.
Some of the high lights were the New Extrema 2... what a nice smooth shooting shotgun, and the TRG in .308 no recoil (Big-Ass Muzzle Break) and even after about 50 rounds it was still shooting sub-MOA off a bipod!
I turned some heads when I shot the Pintail sluggun accurately at 200 yards.
Then I embarassed myself completely by loading the SBEII incorrectly on the skeet range (I own two of them), Toomer is never going to let me forget that faux pas!
The Comfortech R-1 in 30-06 was fantastic and it shot nearly as well as the Bolt action Sakos and Tikkas... but with less than half the recoil. Even after dozens of rounds on a hot day it was still shooting consistent MOA, you have to like that Chryo barrel!
I shot many 100's of rounds of clays, skeet (not so good) and trap (I did good)... my shoulder is a tad tenderized!
The new Benelli Nova with the Comfortech stock was amazing on the trap range. I found the Franchi semi a little light and it hammered my cheek hard but I hit well with it.
I really liked the Benelli Renaissance O/U and I hit 100% with it, it was the fastest pointing shotgun I used, and it was just a field model.
I had a chance to talk to Thomas Pigeon during lunch and I found him to be a regular guy and a serious proponent of the shooting sports industry and hunting in particular. It sounds like the new season of Canada in the Rough is going to be excellent.
The fellas at Stoeger are top drawer and they certainly carry some of the best products in the industry... and they can take me out shooting anytime
