My hunting buddies wife asked me for help to buy my buddy a rangefinder for his X-Mas present. I do not know to much about these toys, what should I be looking for that will not break her bank account ????

I got one this summer. I have not figured out how to use all the options yet. I've got the Leupold RX-II. One thing I was looking for was distance compensation based on angle. Different brands call it different things. Leupold calls it "True Ballistic Range". Bushnell calls it ARC Angle Range Compensation. Also I wanted a good distance range. eg. 5 to 1500 meters. Mine is 5 - 750 meters

Search "range finder" on the site. There was a lot of good info shared not long ago on the same topic. I too have an RXII and love it. The first one was a complete P.O.S. but Korth gave me a new one ASAP and it's been great.

I suppose it boils down to budget? And, as much as I don't like E-bay's stand on guns there are some great deals to be had on other toys!!

How far do you want to range? If inside 500yds, the well priced Bushnells work very well.

If going longer, the next up is the Bushnell Elite 1500.

If you really want performance, Leica and Swarovski.

I have used many of the above but no Nikons, or Leupolds.
