Range insurance?

Recently, I was invited to go shooting with a family member at a club in orangeville. The family member said a new by law was passed requiring all shooters to have range, or, liability insurance. He then suggested I join the Ontario federation of anglers and hunters, which I did, as they provide liability insurance with a membership. Can anyone explain what insurance the club was specifically asking me for? Is this common at clubs? I have only been to three different clubs. Only as a guest. This was the first I have hear about insurance.

A lot of clubs have insurance for all of their members and when guests shoot they sign waivers declaring the club is not responsible for any mishaps and it's the duty of the the member who brought them their to keep them safe.

Any club could be different though so best to call and chat with them about their policies.
