Hey all, can't find a clear answer and could use some help.
If I purchase a restricted firearm from a private seller, do I need to have my range membership before the transfer process is initiated? This will be my first restricted - been collecting NR for a while now and finally biting the bullet.
I have heard wait times are well into next year in some cases, and I was hoping to save on a chunk of the range membership if I don't need it just yet.
Of course, if I need the membership prior to purchase, I would gladly pony up now.

Any help with this one is appreciated!

No, the transfer can be initiated but the CFP won't complete it until you demonstrate intended use with your range membership. Most businesses and private sellers don't appreciate people doing this as the gun sits in limbo and they're still responsible for it.
