Yay, finally got to shoot my new 110FP and it seems to be a shooter.

Was a reasonable Edmonton day, forecast for 7C and overcast, which is about what we got - with very little wind. Had been working up loads for the BTVSS .223 and first loads for the 110FP 7mmRM and chomping at the bit to go try em out.

Took my daughter Dana along, 13 yrs old. From previous indoor range trips, we know that she shoots .22 pistol and .22 rifle at least as well as dad, but this would be her first high powered rifle shooting (with the .223). We were first at the range, at about 10:45, but were soon followed by many and it was still busy but not crowded when we left just before 3.

We spent an hour shooting .22 rifle mostly at 25M. Well warmed up, we moved over to 100M and the main event. I'll be darned if she didn't shoot the lights out with the .223! She shows great form, or at least lack of fear and/or flinch - I can't tell which of these 2 pics is immediately post-shot just by looking at them:

Here's the kind of results she got - This is literally her first 7 shots with this rifle and, as mentioned, had never shot stronger than a .22. This is 53gr Hornady BTHP's over Varget:

Here's prosper in the background hanging his head at being outshot by a young teenager. JUST KIDDING Brad :D

Load development with 69gr Match Kings is not going so well....

Sighted in the 110FP, my first ever scope mount. Took me 6 rounds to be reasonably confident where they were going and getting used to the clicks on the 4200 Tactical scope. In the end, put 20 rounds down the pipe, here are the last 14:

Note: 61, 61.5, 62gr refers to RL22 powder.

Obviously not going to win any medals but I'm a very inexperienced shooter, shooting that heavy of a gun for the first time, off a bipod and rear rest - and thus I'm quite satisfied with 12 of those 14 shots and the gun shows good potential.

One more thing get the girl some cool looking safety glasses.
Enjoy
Dave

HAHA no doubt - we forgot both her safety glasses and hearing prot. Used disposables for ears, my nastybad goggles which are crystal clear and were cheap - they at least have that going for them.

Congrats on some very nice shooting and getting your daughter out. The second pic is just after she shot....her eyes are closed :)

For your 7RM, consider a lee collet neck sizing die, Re25 and Fed 215M primers. In my Savage 7RM, I am keeping them 1/2 MOA at 200yds.

Bedding both rifles will help alot too. Also, consider testing without a bipod. they wiggle and bounce so much on a concrete bench.

Great start and hope many more fun days before it gets too cold.

Jerry

Thanks, Jerry. I have some Re25 here to try out, and a couple of different primers than what I used (Win, I think, have to check). I neck size only with an RCBS neck sizer.

Both rifles are bedded, I posted about some of the 'adventures' I had. The 7mm has a better job than the .223, but it's in the stock very solidly too.

Truly, the gun shoots better than the shooter - no question I need lots more practice =) Next time out I'll shoot some from a rest, as opposed to the bipod.
