My lady put 150 rds of .22 LR ammo though her S&W MP AR 15 using the CMMG Alpha ((phosphate finish) conversion unit today, using both the iron sights and Bushnell Red Dot. I think she's in love, and it's not with a man (other than me, of course).
We checked the zero with the iron sights at 25 yds and it printed a little lower than the .223 ammo she last fired. Rather than let me adjust the height of the front sight, she wanted to play with the red dot, her first time. It needed a little adjusting to '0' and then she was off and running .....
Twenty-five yard groups were 1-1/2" or less. This was with CCI Mini Mags. Groups opened up with both Federal and Remington plated ammo and she experienced her first malfunctions/failures to feed. Back to the Mini Mags.
At 50 yds we posted an 18" reduced size silhouette that came as an insert in an AR magazine we just bought. With the same sight setting, she put all but three of 10 rds into the '10' ring and kept another 10 in the head of the target.
All this was from the bench, so we put out a self-setting .22 flip plinking target at 25 yds so she could try off hand. The target took a beating! There are four 2" diamonds that flip up, reset by hitting the 4" diamond. Great fun and practice! I think this conversion unit is going to make her competent pretty quickly with the AR platform. Now she's looking for more of the magazines.
She's got the 'Muddy Girl' camo peel off - stick on kit, so that's going on to make it girly. The rifle has a name - "Emma Gee" from the maker's name.
She wasn't aware that was the name of the Vickers machine gunners in WWI - The Emma Gees.
