Hey Gang...

I don't do many range reports, but I was so thoroughly impressed by this gun, that I want to pass on the info.

The Pistol is a Dark International DARK 40 - it's double stack 1911 style pistol which is custom ordered, and hand tuned by gunsmith Rodger Kotanko or Port Dover, Ontario.

Here's a link to the pistol...

Essentially, it's like an offshore built, tricked out Para Ordnance. However, in my opinion, having owned 2 Para Ord's, this one is heavier and tighter!

Now, I will preface this review by telling you that I know Rodger, and have had him do some work for me. He has been at the gun-building game for a long time, and builds some fantastic custom race pistols.

Anyhoo, I bought this gun off another member on the board, who bought the gun, but didn't really like the feel of it, and sold it without shooting it.

The trigger is clean, with nearly no creep and breaks at about 4.5lbs. The pistol comes with extended mag release, slide release and ambi safety levers. My gun came with 5 mags, all of which are of excellent quality.

The slide is a flat top, with a flat finish. High vis 3-dot sights have been added, and are quite nice. I know from being at Rodger's, that he test fires all his guns at his shop before they leave for the customer.

As for the finish, again, I know from having Rodger refinish one of my rifles, that he strips the gun to bare metal before applying a VERY dark, satin hot bluing type finish. It's VERY durable and clean.

As for accuracy, at 25 yards, I was able to VERY easily group 10 rounds inside of 2" at a fairly rapid pace! At 45 yards, hitting the 8" steel plate was achieved with every shot of several mags, all of which JUMP out of the magwell when the mag release is depressed.

Muzzle climb was a bit more than on the average 45acp, but the 40S&W tends to be a snappy round. In comparison to my Glock 22, it handles the recoil better, and comes back on target quicker. The high vis sights are just that...easy to see, with two white dots at the rear and an orange dot at the front.

The gun came equipped with rubber grips, that felt quite nice, and the gun stuck in my hand without shifting.

Cleaning was a breeze, as with all other 1911a1 style pistols.

All in all, I have owned A LOT of handguns over the years (...somewhere north of 50...) and this one is the BEST shooting, and most comfortable that I have ever owned. Now, I realize that every guns fits differently in different hands, but if you have large mitts and you like BIG guns, this one is a winner!

Please feel free to drop me a PM if you would like any further info on this gun.

Dark was the first Norinco handgun purchase I ever made. Still got the 45 he sold me and damm is that puppy a shooter. I then offered to move to his town if he ever wanted some one to teach his gunsmithing skillz to. After he was done laughing at me I ended up buy another firearm but this time a M14s. 1 great gu to deal with. To bad he is all the way out there in central Canada.
