So this will be first attempt at producing a Range Report. Pics are taken with Palm Treo smart phone so not the best quality.
The Gun:
Robinson XCR 7.62x39
Optics:
Falcon 4-14x44 in Burris Tactical Med Rings
Millett DMS-1 in Burris PEPR mount
This gun has seen maybe 250 rds. So well past break-in. Gas Valve on #2.
After a few sighting in shots I ran five, 5-shot groups at 100m. Nothing to brag about. Using Czech surplus.
I removed the Millett/PEPR and installed the rear BUIS (not enough room the have installed while Millett in place). Ran two, 5-shot groups at 50m
Reinstalled the Millet, to check to see if unit returned to Zero. Not really what i was expecting. Close to zero, but not really.
After some adjusting, i was able to produce this 9-shot group @ 100m (possibly a 10-shot group, but only count 9 holes)
A couple of weeks ago, I installed my Falcon 4-15x44 and wanted to see what 200m & 300m looked like.
As you will see, I still need some more practice on the longer ranges.
As far as the gun itself. I really like. I think the gun will shoot better than me, so I intend to increase my skills this summer.
Malfunctions:
On the first trip to the range, I had several light primer strikes and some jammed rounds in the chamber. I spoke with XCRMonger and got some advice on what to look out for. In the end, I gave the unit a good take down & cleaning. This Czech ammo has a clear coating on it. Some of this coating builds up on the bolt face and collects around the ejector. Had to use a dental pick to scrape this gunk out.
On subsequent range trips (after the good cleaning)....the light strikes almost disapeared. The jammed rounds still happen every so often. Not sure why. To clear, I had to place the butt on the seat and use a lot of down force on the bolt handle to cycle the chamber.
On this last trip out, I only experienced 2 FTE's & 2 jammed empty chambers. Other than that, this gun ran smoothly.
I've placed an order with Mystic Precision for some 123gr projectiles. I plan on doing some load development this summer to see if i can't tighten up these groups.
