One of my handguns fired this group; see if you can guess which one before seeing the answer?

44SpecialDave (Dave) and I went to the range for Boxing Day. This time I only took three handguns and Dave only brought one handgun.

Our plan was to shoot 45acps in my S&W M325 and Ballester-Molina plus Dave’s Sig-Sauer P220. We specifically wanted to find out what the recoil was like in my M325 using 185gr-jacketed bullets. I do not find this 21.5 oz. Revolver that hard to handle with 230gr rounds but I went along with Dave on this. The revolver is a joy to shoot and you can certainly incapacitate a bad guy at 15 yards or more. Groups were medium orange sized to 15 yards. The M325 gets better as you bring it closer to you. Dave and I experienced no stoppages with this revolver and I continue to like the grips. The only negative I find is that you cannot use Hoppe’s on the outside; Hoppe’s will remove the outer clear coat on the revolver. One must use Nevr Dull instead of abrasive cleaners. This is a small inconvenience for a carry weapon that is this good.

Dave shot his P220 and he experienced no malfunctions with it. This was my pistol but I only have eyes for the Sig-Sauer P228. To me, the P228 is the finest pistol Sig makes and the only one that interests me. In fairness to BrenHopper, I have yet to hold or shoot a P229. I am sure the grip size is the same as the P228.

I shot my Ballester-Molina using 200gr LSWC reloads that were loaded by George and me from D&G Reloading. In both cases, most of the powder charges were 5.5gr of Winchester 231. This is a mild charge and produces descent accuracy. I had no malfunctions what so ever and these rounds produced nice sized groups.

The last handgun Dave and I shot was the Glock 21 with the 10mm KKM barrel and 21# spring. I am sorry to report that Dave and I each had one malfunction while shooting 35 rounds through the G21. The G21 is still going through reliability testing with the KKM barrel. I am sure Dave and I were guilty of limp wristing the pistol but both occurrences were easily cleared. This pistol groups well and recoils lightly for a heavy hitter. My mind sees the G21 with 10mm barrel as a great deer/hog gun. Lastly, Dave is a revolver guy but he finds the Glock trigger easy to adapt to.

If you have not guessed by now the group in the target was fired by my Ballester-Molina (BM). I love to shoot groups like that in something most consider junk. My BM was junk when I bought it. The pistol would not group and it needed TLC by Marianne Carniak of the Accurizer Gunshop in Troy, MI to bring it up to snuff. My BM has Novak three dot sights, a fitted Series 70 barrel and match barrel bushing along with Hakan grips. I find it a joy to shoot and just plain handle.
