Looking for opinions on a rangefinder for gopher shooting. Will the units range a small furry target reliably over 125 yrds. Using an Anschutz 190 with a Weaver v 24 off a lightweight rest. Thnx in advance.

I tried to do it this summer. Couldn't get a reading from a cheap laser rangefinder. The waving grass threw it off. Works fine however for building cars and other big stuff. Out on the prairies, there wasn't much nearby that would give a reading. Was pretty much useless. Since I'm too cheap to buy a lieca etc, I found a ranging rangematic 1000, which was very cheap ($50 shipped) and will be just fine for gophers. You can find them on ebay, I put a wtb on EE.

For that use, I would go with a higher quality rangefinder such as a Leica.Even then, at some ranges, I resort to ranging piles of dirt, stones, or small bushes.

I looked at a Leupold RX 600 at WSS today, the guy behind the counter wasn't much help. Price was decent, a few more bells and whistles than the Bushnell 450. Their customer sastisfaction policy should cover an unhappy situation if I can find some one who is knowlegeable enough to tell me that it will work and find out it truly doesn't.
