Ranging that T-post out in the field can be tough to get a good reading on
Is there a r/f or r/f binos that have a better mode/feature for hitting the small target in a busy fov ?
"best' or 'last' or 'lock', have seen various but never delved into the differences
Tried 'scan' to some success

Have you tried a 'Good' RF ? Why are you shooting T-posts ? Are they old, rusty ones, maybe harder to 'reflect' ?

Ranging steel targets smaller than 1moa is pushing the boundaries of our equipment. There comes a point where it is better (more reliable) to range the base of the target hanger, than the target itself.

As with most things in the shooting world, spending more money helps, but doesn't guarantee perfection.

I don't think there is a RF that will range a T-post at 1 mile.

In a busy field of view, you want to be on First mode. Just ensure there is no grass or foliage between yourself and the target while on First.

If your doing this for your own shooting, red is the most highly reflective colour for rangefinders to pick up. Take a lid off a five gallon plastic pail and drill two holes about two inches apart. Place your TEE post and attach the lid from the pail painted red to the base of the post with an electrical tie strap. Range, shoot, smile!! It works awesome

thanks for that
working at normal prs distances, just need to upgrade to newer features,
Will be looking at a unit with First or Target mode, my old Vortex doesn't have it nor the Leica
Golfers have 'pin finder' or 'flag lock', may look at those

You have to pick a budget and find the best product within your budget.

If you want to talk to some experts within this space, the Canadian fancy optics market, I think the guys at Precision Optics and Shooting Warehouse are the standouts.

My only advice is that no matter the budget, SIG is not the right choice.

first stop is the Gunnutz experts, real world value (when filtered)

Sig binos were on the list, have seen then in use, but maybe newer options are better?
Not looking for on-board ballistics just yet

Most info is directed toward hunting applications, lately how to make elr shooting easier
or the other, golfers market, hot tip is the magnet to stick it to the frame of the cart for easy access:rolleyes:

I have an 'older' (like 5+ years old) RF that has a 'first' but I don't know if it'd be 'fine-tuned' enuf for you. Here's a vid I found and saved for my info, may give you an idea ? I just use mine at the range, so no 'real woods' use to refer to.

and here's another - http s://www.rangefinders.com/bushnell-prime-1700-6x24-laser-rangefinder.html

I always range my target and then range just off to the side of my target and that will tell you if your ranging the target or not. Ive never had a problem ranging anything.

Vortex seems to advertise their 'first' target feature, other rf's not so easy to find the info
