In Norway, the annual Landsskytterstevnet (Rifle Country Fair) is Norway’s largest shooting tournament. One of the most popular Landsskytterstevnet events is a rapid-fire competition. The objective is to achieve the most hits on multiple targets in the alloted time period (typically 25 seconds or less). In some stages, all targets are at the same distance, while in other stages the shooters engage targets at 3 or 4 different distances.

You would think that a semi-automatic rifle would dominate the rapid-fire matches, but that isn’t the case. In the video linked below, civilian shooters with mag-fed Sauer 200 STR bolt-action target rifles outpace Norwegian army personnel using HK select-fire rifles in semi-auto mode. You’ll be amazed to see how fast the civilians can shoot their target rifles. It’s a great video… be patient and let it load from the Norwegian server.

Equally amazing is the size of the crowd and the spectators’ enthusiasm. We’ve never seen anything like this in the USA. Over 1000 Norwegian fans are clapping, cheering, and singing during the match. You’d think this was a Big Ten Football game! Obviously the Norwegians love their shooting sports. Electronic scoring and big display screens allow the crowd to follow the fast-paced action

Interesting to watch, not a bunch of 12 minute deliberates. The range setup and scoring keep the crowd in the know and the comp on national TV.

Yeah thanks for posting that! Really enjoyed it and it was neat to see another form of service rifle. The guys shooting the bolt guns sure had a different way of shooting - very fast!

Kinda funny, here is a bit of trivia for the ones that doesn't understand Norwegian.
Nils Tormod, which was shooting his Sauer forgot to bring gun oil to the event and just before he had to take his place on the line he resorted to using Bremykt for lubrication. Bremykt is a Norwegian brand of butter lol

It would be interesting to know how big the targets are, clibers being used and at what distances they are shot at.Something like that could go over very well for shooting sports in Canada!

Why the heck did he have butter? From his lunch?

Maybe we should copy it and start something. Kinda remind me of falling plates team shoot that used to be happening at the end of SR matches.

It is so much fun and exciting to watch because the eletronic target displayed the score in real time so the audiences can see the race.

It is fun to watch because it is a real time shooting race against each other - versus a race against a time clock.

The competition you saw in that video was shot in 7.62 x 51 NATO
The Military was shooting license built HK G3/AG3 from Kongberg Vaapenfabrikk, which used to be the issued service rifle until they began issuing the HK 416. They now also compete with the HK 416 (5.56x45) in the Military Norges Mesterskap (Norwegian Championship)

The Sauer rifle is basically a civilian version of Sig-Sauer's SSG 3000 sniper rifle and is permitted to be used in this competition in 6.5 x 55 mm, 7.62 x 51 mm NATO and .22 Long Rifle.

The event in the video is only showing some of the speed shooting segment of a larger competition with about 850 registered clubs entered. DFS is arranging this event every year and there are anywhere between 4000 and 7000 people competing in the different classes.

Here is a simplified list showing the different distances for some of the classes.

I could probably find info for you or try to translate it to English if you really want to know more about this shooting event.

Good electronic targets are worth their weight in gold and bad ones are not worth shooting on. Without the real time scoring it would be boring. I don't want to throw gallery rages under the wheels here but a GOOD flexible system could change things.
