This is a perfect example of a "country gun" put together when all you have is parts. This came from Newfoundland and I cleaned up for a friend handed down through the family. Luckily it had been varnished all over ( repeatedly) to protect from salt water or to be keep inland wrapped in an oil cloth for poaching but I figure the former. Its a 1889 Trapdoor Springfield stock( still ca see the cartouche) with a 1862 Springfield percussion lock firing a 1853 P53 enfield barrel. The amazing thing is the 1862 lock screws match up perfectly with the Trapdoor screws.By grinding away the lock abit they fit the profile of the 1853 barrel, the hammer strikes perfectly.The barrel is as tight as the original Springfield barrel. I can imagine not being able to get 45/70 ammo, access to blackpowder, Brit guns, only a Newf Boys and I say that with the most extreme admiration. She would take moose/caribou or Turrs.
