just to let you guys know how valuable a russian SKS could be , this first year of production 1949 is all matching and unfired after refurb , its not perfect bcos it has the wrong bayo but still its current bid is $610 .

i keep wishing one of these will be in my mail from SIR. :D

49's and most 50's are not great ones to have except as collectibles, as they did not add chrome lining until late 1950

First of all a 1949 would be Great to have, and secondly, as long as you clean your rifle properly after shooting corrosive, there is no problem shooting with it. I shoot my 1950(Not chromed), and have no problems with corrosion, and its actually a very accurate rifle for a SKS. Yugo SKS's are great to have, and none of them are chrome lined either, and tons of people shoot them all the time.

i dont see why it wouldnt be as good as other years just bcos of non-chrome barrel .

you can be assured that the fine craftman at tula who refurbished this SKS would have done an A-1 job and he wont hessistate to replace the barrel should it warrants it .

btw: i dont wanna nit pick but non-chrome was made from 1949 to part of 1951 .:D

Plenty of later parts. Seen a refurb or two.

the only later part i seen is the bayo, what else?

signs of refurb are black paint on metal , ###x on the stock and the two pins at the grip . ofcos the refurb sign [/] on the top cover .

Replaced stock, replaced bolt carrier. I'd be surprised if it still had the earlier bolt in it.

The parts mentioned make this just another, albeit early, mismatched SKS for me. Interesting yes, but not worth any big premium IMO.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems expensive.

actually this is low due to many parts are not original . last spring i have seen a couple sold for $1400 & $1500 . thats like 8 russian SKS from SIR .
