What is it with posting your guns for sale as 'rare' lately? So many ads in the EE are for 'rare' guns. Are they?!? Hell, if they are still making them, I'd guess not! We're not talking e-nickel Pythons here! Do a search on 'rare' on the Pistols and revolvers EE, and there are currently 43 hits. Of those, maybe 3 might be considered rare, depending on your definition. Am I supposed to pay more for a 'rare' model, even though there is nothing particularly special about it? I suspect that my interpretation of 'rare' is different than someone who bought an off the shelf gun new a year ago, and now wants to sell it and get all his money back and more because it has some two tone paint job or something. Just commenting on a trend I've been noticing. If anyone is interested, I've got quite a few rare guns I'll sell you, but they are worth more because there were almost a half million of them made.

Having said that.....I have a rare Ruger 10/22 I'd sell you.
And I've got some really nice S&W revolvers that may not be rare, but are in amazing condition for their age, to sell you! And I have a 10/22, with a Volquartzen trigger assembly that I like just fine.
They used to put the word "rare" on Scotch, even though they made it and shipped it literally by the boatload. The word was utterly meaningless. Another example: they used to put the word "Napoleon" on brandy. It's just marketing, but many people believe that "Napoleon" brandy was somehow better than "ordinary" brandy.
Well what am I to think of my bottle of 'Extremely Rare' 18 year old Glenmorangie now?? I guess I'll just have to drink it like common swill haha.....

Ya I was tempted at buying a 4506 that just sold and the seller was asking $750 and I thought that might be a tiny bit high and then a week later a rare 4506 showed up and the seller was asking $1200 for it. Maybe I should have bought the $750 one and doubled my money. Sometimes you jus have to laugh.

There's been a SIG P220 in 9mm similar to the one you and about 4 others I've seen in the last few months that has been on here forever and it's supposedly rare in Canada and worth over $1000. He just recently dropped it down to what the others have been going for. When I see that kind of attempted gouging I shake my head and make note not to buy anything off them ever.

I was thinking of posting up my 'rare' unmarked Norinco 1911A1. You know one of the ones from the Can-Am deal. It's not really rare on it's own, except now I've owned it.
So that right there makes it a rare collector item, eh?
I'm even willing to include a letter of provenance.
