Pretty rare as military rifles go. Small scaled down version of the Hakim which in turn was a licenced produced version of the Swedish rifle who's name I can't spell.
I seem to recall they sold for $300.00 or so in the 80's and that there was only a limited number produced, the number 6,500 seems to be jumping out at me. Wouldn't having one if you are willing to part with it.

havent really thought about sellin it, but you never know i guess. its the best beaver gun ever........
i knew that the production numbers were low, and to find parts for them is very near to impossible .points up nice, i like it way better than a sks or VZ 52/57.

Levi,

They are a gas operated, not piston operated action. Pretty neat really but just a scaled down version of the Hakim.

both the vz and the rashid destroy the sks in quality and accuracy...but thats just my opinion :)

rashids are very nice, I should have kept mine, paid 350 for it or so about 4 years ago. Bore wasnt mirror and Im anal about that so I eneded up selling it. The thing is built like a tank though, very nice action.

I have one as well.

Production number was 8000 units globally. They are as rare as an Albanian SKS's. My Rashid is on my "never sell pass onto my daughter in the will" rifle.

Mine has a few more safe kisses than yours. Yours is nice. Right now it won't fire the 2nd shot for some reason. As it is gas driven I am presuming the gas port is gunked up but I have yet to rip it totally apart.

They are almost as easy to field strip as an SKS.

If you ever want to sell yours let me know.

I have a VZ 52/57 in 7.62X39 as well. Same thing. I'll never sell it.

Lucky you! :)
Keep it if you can: these are getting rarer by the minute!
Do yourself a favor: shoot it; you won't want to part with it anymore.
They are a quite peculiar and one of a kind design: the only 7,62x39 service rifle to use the direct gas inpingement method.
Yes: there's no piston and secondary actuator, only a tube that blows a puff of gas into a recess on the carrier's face, "à la" MAS-49. There's also an adjustable gas valve to tailor the exact amount of said puff to accomodate different lots of ammo.
Because it is an open-top action, there's no problem with the action becoming dirty and gunking up as in the M-16/AR family.

The absence of piston has another advantage: there's practically no torque on the barrel to disturb its harmonics, thus lending to a quite accurate firearm.
Given good ammo, you can expect tight grouping if you do your part. And you'll especially appreciate the screwdriver-adjustable front sight.
Try it, you'll like it.

And if you still don't want it, may I add my name to the INTERESTED list? ;)

oh i have shot it, not much, but i like it. shot it on paper at 50, and got it zeroed in. then went beaver hunting, dam things are floodin out my field. anyways, at around 40 yards, i am 4 shots/ 4 beaver. all head shots ,i am totally impressed with it

i saw one for sale 2 years ago on firearmcanada. He was asking 650$ and i was broke... too bad. i am still broke...

I do appreciate it, but had some problems with the lock screw. It was stripped. I over treaded it and replaced, and now it locks good but I find that the windage screw still gets loose with recoil. There is about a half-turn worth of free play (the screw turns but the post doesn't move). I don't really know if the recoil affects only that free play, but it does affect my confidence. Do you have the same problem and do you think blue locktite would be a solution?

No. Mine hasn't what I can call freeplay or notable backlash. Maybe you can find the zero point, mark it then use Blue Loctite on the screw and reassemble it at the mark.
Too bad the parts are quite scarce.
I had to change the disconnector, which was broken on mine. I found some guy who currently visits the Gunboards Forum (Egyptian firearms) and he sells some parts, gas adjustment tool and other small bits. I can't remember his name, though...
If I find him, I'll tell you.

When Century last had the Rashid in their Canadian catalog (1995), the selling price was 229.95 $....

Anyone can post close-ups of the upper magazine - locking lugs and guiding webs?

Nice little rifle! I almost bought one a few years back but messed around too long and someone else nabbed it. I ended up getting a VZ 52/57 in 7.62X39 instead. They are both neat little guns. I never got to fire one but if it shoots as good as my VZ I'd never part with it if I were you.
