I know this has been beat to death, but I can't seem to find the answers in the search area. I want to start loading bullets for plinking in my AR-15. The rate of twist is 1:9. Can I use the cheap 55gr. bullets with this? I have some heavy 68gr, but I am looking for some cheap 55gr. for IPSC etc. Will they work out to 100 yards?

Both 55Gr and 68Gr will work in your 1/9. 1/7 and 1/9 both shoot 55Gr perfectly fine, with someone people saying 1/9 shoots the lighter stuff a bit better than 1/7.

I have used 55Gr out to 300 yards with no issues in 14.5 and now my 16" guns.

Yes. I plink with 55 gr stuff routinely. Shoots fine in my 1/7. In fact I think you will find 52 grain SMK's work VERY well out to 100 yards in light wind.

If I want to shoot outdoors out further I like the heavier bullets as they deflect wind better.

My ARs are 1:9 and I mainly shoot 55gr. I have some 62gr., but as I only shoot paper, I buy the cheapest commercial 55gr. available... and the ARs don't know it... yet!:D
