Ive been looking at 300winmags, and noticed a tikka is 1:11 and savage and remington are 1:10. Is there going to be much difference between the two(accuracy, bullet weight selection)?

Savage 12long range .223, 1:9 or 1:7??

#1, I don't think you will find much difference in accuracy with the selection of .30 cal bullets.
#2, A 1:9 twist may or may not stablize an 80 gr bullet a 1:7 twist will.

If you are only using the rifle with light bullets for varmints a 1:12 will work. When you want to reach out there, is where the heavy bullets really start to shine. All my shooting with a .223 is with heavy match bullets so I realy can't tell you if you can overspin a bullet.

Urban legend

I've been shooting a 220 swift, these use the same diameter bullet used in a .223 rem.(.224/ 40 gr v-max)
I've heard/read the same things about, oh if you spin them too fast they,ll fly apart or push em too hard this or that'll happen.
I've been shooting little tiny 40 gr varmint hornady's (varmint,, i.e. the ones that are supposed to come apart easy to avoid bullets bouncing around the neighbourhood on missed gophers) and after sending em down range at and average of 4350 F.P.S. I can't make em come apart. The average .223 is what, about 2900 f.p.s.
I think it's an urban legend, laff, i've never seen proof that it,ll happen.

If you give me a month I'll have my 22-250 rebarreled to a 1-8 and I'll let you know what happens to the 40gr's at 4000fps. Till then no idea. Very curious though, I’m sure some one here has tried it.
