Hi guys, what is about the average going rate for a complete hot reblue job? I own 4 old Pump 22`s and would love to have them reblued. I heard TnT does them in Regina which is only an hour away. Just not sure on the job they do and the turn around time. Say I strip the guns and send them just the action and barrels? Thanks for any advice. Its scary since these guns are getting harder to find and I hate to have a part go missing or something crazy like that.

Disassembly, and proper metal prep will save you a bundle. The prep work is a big chunk of the cost involved, keep flats flat, edges sharp, and remember bluing doesn't hide anything. The quality of the bluing job depends entirely on the quality of the prep work.

how about calling TnT, save you tons of time and opinions that don't mean anything. (mine included)

Like double gun mentioned, the biggest part of a bluing job is the prep work, its all labour intensive and time consuming. The actual bluing process is not that expensive, if you did the prep and then sent it in, that would be your most economical route to go.

If you are going to pay a smith then take them the gun and get it done, all small parts (screws, pins, etc) should be done at the same time. Gonna look like crap if you don't get all the internals refinished as well.

The local guy up here does an exceptional job. He cleans and preps the barral and receiver and hot blues both for $80. He does a better job than I can and is so reasonably priced that it is a no brainier. I don't know what other companies are charging but I can't imagine it being too much more than $80 CND.

I don't know what the prices are now, but about 20 years ago in Kelowna, I was quoted around $30 to hot blue a Win Model 94 .30-30.

One of the stipulations was that I had the gun completely disassembled with the metal prepped.

They didn't want any bluing or oil on it, so I had to have the metal polished and degreased beforehand.

When I was doing bluing a few years ago I often charged $250 to $350 for quality polishing and bluing on old pump 22's. It depends on how bad the metal is and how good you want it to look when blued. At the same time I charged $100 to blue customer prepared parts... and they usually looked like customer prepared parts when finished.... It's all about the work before the bluing process. I don't do it anymore because I would rather not spend all the time and labour for $350 cash.

I was quoted 250-300 by two different places here in Calgary and 125$ by Brian at Accurate Action. It was 125 for a matte finish then i think 250 for gloss if I recall correctly. So I'll let you take a guess who has my shotgun.
