My 1931 born 1891/30 Mosin Nagant's trigger shoots fine and although has a long pull, breaks consistently but has always rattled (both side to side and front to back). Even after cambering a round. Drives me bonkers!

So today took it apart and put it back together just to see if I could make out any broken/ worn/ misaligned components and all seemed to be in order.

Interestingly, my M44's trigger is crisp with no rattle or play. Is there a fix for the rattle ? Should I be worried or is this a fairly common occurrence on Mosins ?

It is very common and not a problem that affects the function of the rifle. you can get a spring that takes the back and forth slack out. and the side to side is caused by the trigger pin being undersize. go over to surplusrifleforum .com and there are stickies that explain all. really too much for me to type out. good luck mosins kick a$$

Mosins are tough beasts. Advice: if the trigger is working fine as it is and you can put up with the slack, don't bother dicking with it. Simply, if it aint broke don't fix it.

Thx for the advice chaps. I suppose I'll just let it be then.

Oh and yes, they are extremely fun rifles!

If it really bugs you you don't have to live with it go to surplus rifle forum the fixes are cheap and easy heck timney makes a great trigger that costs as much as the rifle

mg4201: Sorry for not mentioning that in my previous post, I did read up on the stickies at SurplusRifle after you mentioned it and they do indeed have some really good tips on "cleaning" up the Mosin. Great resource!

For anyone else that may be suffering from the same, and is ambitious enough to give it a whirl, the following threads (as directed by mg4201) seem to be helpful in "fixing" this issue and generally smoothing up the rifle:
