I picked up a K98 RC yesterday that is quite interesting. I haven't wanted to get one of these unless it could be checked out visually first. It is a dot, 1944 with a pristine bore (iwant it as a shooter). It is the usual mixmaster of parts and is desireable in that it has a laminated stock with a wrist reinforceing bolt and all machined parts. There were other rifles with better finished receivers, but only good at best bores. What is reslly unusual about this rifle is that it has an unumbered receiver other than the the manufactureing code and date, the waffenampt swastikas haven't been peened over and the inspection and proof marks are intact, also there is no sign of scrubbing at all. The only Russian mark on the rifle is what appears to be an X over the 3 digit serial number the mark on the magazine wall is jus the late war mod. 98 and the metal finish is like most late war rifles, full of machine marks and no polish. Has anyone else found one of these unnumbered receivers? From looking at the rifle, it almost looks like it was refurbed by a german prisoner that may not have peened over the Nazi markings, just IMHO of course. bearhunter
