I picked up a K98 RC yesterday that is quite interesting. I haven't wanted to get one of these unless it could be checked out visually first. It is a dot, 1944 with a pristine bore (iwant it as a shooter). It is the usual mixmaster of parts and is desireable in that it has a laminated stock with a wrist reinforceing bolt and all machined parts. There were other rifles with better finished receivers, but only good at best bores. What is reslly unusual about this rifle is that it has an unumbered receiver other than the the manufactureing code and date, the waffenampt swastikas haven't been peened over and the inspection and proof marks are intact, also there is no sign of scrubbing at all. The only Russian mark on the rifle is what appears to be an X over the 3 digit serial number the mark on the magazine wall is jus the late war mod. 98 and the metal finish is like most late war rifles, full of machine marks and no polish. Has anyone else found one of these unnumbered receivers? From looking at the rifle, it almost looks like it was refurbed by a german prisoner that may not have peened over the Nazi markings, just IMHO of course. bearhunter:confused:

Go to photobuck.com set up an account, upload your pics and once done view your album which you just created, then below your pics you will see a box with info, highlight the URL Link, the link will be covered in blue. Put your curser in that box and right click and copy it.

Then open up your CGN thread and select attach link, go to your post box and right click hit paste.

FWIW, some of the Nazi factories stopped serializing receivers in late 1944, especially Brunn and Mauser (your rifle as made at Brunn).

The barrel bears the serial number on those rifles.

Mauser continued to intermittently stamp the receiver matching till then end of the war wit big gaps of n-numbered receivers intermixed. Brunn dropped it and it stayed dropped for quite a while.
