RC K98 or not???

Hey guys....So I put a bid in for a K98 found sitting in a closet for 20 years and was bought by someone as part of a lot at an estate sale......According to the seller the receiver/bolt/mag plate are matching#s...and he says there is no electropenciling anywhere on it......Do you guys think this rifle is a Russian capture??




 
I highly doubt it's a Russian Capture K98. It does look like it has been "sportered", but IIRC RC K98's have only been coming into the country in the last year or so.

If it was sitting in a closet for 20 years, I think it's more likely that it was an import from West Germany (or Western Europe). It could be a vet bringback as well.
 
The end of the wood in front of the barrel band is missing. Could be the duffle cut or sportered.

A duffle cut is when the stock is cut by a GI so it will fit in a smaller box or bag.

dou43 does not match the stock.

These are all the pics the seller has of it.....The bidding ends today and I don't know if I got it yet or not...I will let you know the outcome....I will try and get more pics and post if I do...What specific areas should I get pics of???

All the serials to start with. Stock isn't going to match as it's off a Mauser Oberndor f(byf code) K98k. It still would be a nice rifle and worth more than a RC if all the metal matches.
 
Im sure it will make a fine shooter but collector value is bugger all. Its been cut, I wouldn't pay more than a hundred bucks for it and I needed the parts for another rifle.

Unless you desire to have a shooter, pass it up. There is little collector value in a Babba.

While it's not a matching original, it still may have some collector value. If all the metal matches and you end up with a stock m/m it should be worth more than a RC based on what similar rifles have sold for on the EE. At 300 bucks, I think the op got a reasonable deal.

A hundred bucks wouldn't even buy the complete bolt assy in most cases.

I agree. A complete matching bolt is worth $100 or more these days.
